Monica Carey

Pennsylvania Program Director at Solar United Neighbors

Monica Carey has extensive work experience in the field of renewable energy. From 2012 to 2018, they worked as a Graduate Student at Michigan State University, specializing in ultrafast spectroscopy and iron chemistry for solar cell devices. In this role, they led the use and management of spectroscopy systems and introduced younger students to research methodologies.

Since 2021, Monica has been with Solar United Neighbors. Initially, they started as a Pennsylvania Solar Policy Intern, where they conducted research on community solar legislation and guided constituents in communicating their renewable energy concerns to state representatives. Monica also compiled legislator profiles and developed visual displays to showcase state-wide support for renewable energy.

Monica Carey obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from Lebanon Valley College, where they studied from 2008 to 2012. Monica then pursued a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Chemistry at Michigan State University from 2012 to 2018. Additionally, Monica has acquired several certifications, including Environmental Policy and Law, Python Basics, Public Policy Challenges of the 21st Century, and Politics and Economics of International Energy, all from Coursera. The Environmental Policy and Law certification was obtained in May 2020, the Python Basics certification in April 2020, and the Public Policy Challenges of the 21st Century and Politics and Economics of International Energy certifications in December 2016 and August 2016, respectively.
