Matthew Michel

Matt is an Associate Principal based in SCB’s Boston office with nearly 35 years of practice in the commercial mixed-use, science and technology, and institutional sectors. As part of the firm’s Science and Technology leadership team, Matt’s experience and demonstrated success in delivering complex projects in Boston and the greater Northeast strengthens the firm’s growth in the sector, specifically in the life sciences.

Matt’s approach to project management is focused on providing great insight, rigor, and dedication to delivering on client goals. Matt’s work has spanned both new construction and renovation in large-scale urban mixed-use and residential projects, research-focused life science buildings and campuses, corporate office projects, and institutional projects.

Prior to joining SCB, Matt helped lead a Boston-based architectural firm. During his tenure, the firm grew from 20 to 130 staff, broadened its market sector presence and expertise, and improved the quality of documentation and coordination.

Matt’s key past projects include over one million square feet of completed life sciences projects in Kendall Square, Cambridge; Phase 2 of Fenway Center, a 720,000-square-foot life science building in Boston; a robotics testing facility for Boston Dynamics in Waltham, Massachusetts; and fifteen years consistently delivering on multiple control room and operation center renovation projects for National Grid.

Matt earned his Bachelor of Architecture from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. He is registered throughout the east coast and a current member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and Boston Society for Architects (BSA).
