Joshua Herwig has a diverse work experience in various positions. Joshua co-founded SOMAVAC Medical Solutions, Inc. in 2016 and served as the CTO, leading all technology-related functions and managing the company's intellectual property portfolio. Prior to that, from 2014 to 2016, they worked as a Graduate Research Assistant at The University of Memphis where they conducted research in the field of Cell Mechanics, specifically focusing on lung mechanobiology. Joshua developed and tested hypotheses related to cytokine-induced mechanical strain in an in-vitro epithelial monolayer, requiring the development of novel methods and apparatus. Before that, from 2013 to 2014, they worked as a Mechanical Machine Design Engineer at Mid South Industrial Automation. Additionally, from 2011 to 2012, they worked as a Production Engineer Co-Op at DENSO, gaining substantial knowledge in manufacturing processes, project management, and machine modification and process improvement projects.

Joshua Herwig earned a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Mechanical Engineering from Tennessee Technological University, where they studied from 2008 to 2013. Following this, they pursued a Master's degree in Biomedical Engineering from both The University of Tennessee Health Science Center and The University of Memphis, completing their studies in 2016.
