John Byrd

Director of Software at Sonance

John Byrd's work experience begins in 1993 when they worked as a Senior Engineer at The 3DO Company, where they wrote and taught courses for game audio and provided technical assistance for development teams. In 1997, they became the Director of Development Technology at Sega of America, Inc., where they managed the creation of the Sega Dreamcast SDK and supervised developer technical support. From 2002 to 2006, John served as the Chief Operating Officer at CRI Middleware, where they sold audio middleware products and cultivated leads with major US game publishers. In 2002, they also briefly worked at Electronic Arts as a Senior Project Manager, overseeing a team for the AAA action-sports game Freekstyle. In 2006, John founded their own company, Gigantic Software, LLC, where they developed and sold audio middleware and tools to prominent companies such as Sony and Disney. Most recently, John joined Sonance in 2021 as the Director of Software, where they were responsible for hiring engineers and developing next-generation audio products and services.

John Byrd attended Harvard University from 1987 to 1991, where they earned an AB degree in Computer Science.
