Robert Rÿker is a distinguished music director with extensive experience in orchestral performance and education. Currently serving as the Music Director for Tokyo Sinfonia since January 2005, Rÿker has garnered acclaim for imaginative programming and a dynamic rapport with audiences. Additionally, Rÿker has been actively involved in music publishing as a classical arranger, creating a significant body of orchestrations for various ensemble sizes. With an extensive conducting career that began in 1970, Rÿker has developed both players and orchestras internationally. Rÿker's musical journey began as a tuba performer from 1953 to 1973, following an educational background at Indiana University Bloomington, where Rÿker earned degrees in Music Performance and Music Education.
