Position Summary:

The role of the Aerial Groundman I is to perform physical labor tasks at construction sites in accordance with company and industry safety rules and operating procedures.

 

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

The Aerial Groundman I is a full-time (40 hours per week), non-exempt/hourly position. Typical schedule is Monday through Friday 6am-3pm. Some overtime work should be expected for this position.

 

Travel:

Travel is expected for this position. A valid California Driver’s License and Clean DMV is required.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the loading/unloading of equipment and supplies needed for daily work assignments, setting-up of worksite traffic and safety controls and properly securing work area.
  • Hand dig with shovels, picks, digging bars, lifting up to 100lbs multiple times, climbing on and off trucks and using ladders.
  • Operate jackhammers, compressors and powered tools including drills roto hammers and cement saws.
  • Prep hardware and equipment for crew and provide support to lineman and foreman.
  • Fully restore worksite at completion of daily work, refill holes, tamp soil, replant plants or shrubs that were disturbed during construction, place asphalt on streets or concrete on sidewalk where excavations have been performed.
  • Operate, clean and maintain all company vehicles and equipment assigned for use.
  • Capable of working in all temperatures and climates
  • Able to perform physical tasks for the entire assigned work shift
  • Willingness to work shifts as assigned, including daily overtime when necessary.
  • Ensure that proper safety and incident reporting procedures are followed.
  • Bring problems to the attention of the Foreman, Construction Supervisor, Construction Manager, Safety Director or HR.

Job Requirements:

  • Valid CA Driver’s License and clean DMV record a MUST!
  • Some knowledge of proper use of equipment, materials and supplies used in pole line construction work.
  • Some knowledge of first aid and applicable safety precautions.
  • Ability to work independently and complete daily activities according to work schedule.
  • Ability to lift 100 pounds or more, walk and stand for long periods of time and perform strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions.
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing.
  • Ability to use equipment and tools properly and safely.
  • Ability to understand, follow and transmit written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to meet attendance schedule with dependability and consistency. Regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in outside conditions that include inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust and asphalt.
  • Must be able to lift, push, pull or carry objects, use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue and to effectively jump, sprint or throw an object.
  • Requires good manual dexterity (hand, hand with arm two hands) and multi-limb coordination.
  • Noise level is generally loud.
  • Must be able to quickly move arms and legs.
  • Excellent stamina is required.
  • Ability to work in current weather conditions including but not limited to extreme heat, rain, dust, and wind.
  • Ability to communicate with the public coworkers and management in fast paced environment to keep projects moving.

Daily driving is expected. The Construction crew is exposed to varying climates and elements, determined by Mother Nature. Extreme heat, rain, dust and wind are to be expected.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is constantly required to sit and stand; talk or hear; reach with hands and arms; key/type. The employee is required to walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; climb stairs and ladders; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee is required to drive a vehicle.

Pay Scale

$20 - $24/hr
