Thomas Chittum has a diverse work experience spanning several roles and organizations. Thomas is currently the SVP of Forensic Services at SoundThinking, formerly known as ShotSpotter. Prior to this, they worked as an Adjunct Law Professor at the University of Nevada-Las Vegas, William S. Boyd School of Law starting in 2021.

Chittum also has extensive experience with the ATF, where they held various positions including Associate Deputy Director (Chief Operating Officer), Assistant Director, Deputy Assistant Director, Special Agent in Charge, Chief of Special Operations, Assistant Special Agent in Charge, and Chief of Staff, among others. Thomas served in these roles between 1999 and 2022.

Before joining the ATF, Chittum worked as a Special Agent - Criminal Investigator at IRS Criminal Investigation from 1997 to 1999.

Thomas Chittum obtained a Doctor of Law (JD) degree from the William S. Boyd School of Law, University of Nevada-Las Vegas, from 2009 to 2013. Prior to that, they earned a Master of Science (MS) degree in Criminal Justice from Eastern Kentucky University from 2003 to 2007. Their undergraduate education was completed at Marshall University, where they obtained a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in Criminal Justice from 1993 to 1997. In addition to their educational qualifications, Thomas Chittum holds various certifications, including being an Attorney at the Virginia State Bar, Kentucky Bar Association, The West Virginia State Bar, and the Supreme Court of the U.S. Thomas also holds the certification of Senior Executive Service from the U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM).
