Robert M Shapiro II is an experienced library and information science professional with a strong background in public health. Currently serving as the Director of Library Services at Novant Health since October 2022 and the Director of Learning Commons & Health Sciences Library at SEAHEC since May 2020, Robert has a comprehensive history in academia and healthcare libraries. Previous roles include Visiting Assistant Professor at the University of Kentucky School of Information Science and various positions within the University of Kentucky's Medical Center Library, culminating in the role of Assistant Director for Research, Education, & Clinical Services. Robert also contributed to public health initiatives as a Librarian at the National Coordinating Center for Public Health Services and Systems Research and as Managing Editor for Frontiers in Public Health Services and Systems Research. Academic qualifications include a PhD in Communication, Information Science, and Public Health, a Master's in Library and Information Science, and a Bachelor's in Philosophy and Religious Studies, all from the University of Kentucky and Appalachian State University.

SEAHEC
The NC AHEC Program provides and supports educational activities and services with a focus on primary care in rural communities and those with less access to resources to recruit, train, and retain the workforce needed to create a healthy North Carolina. Located in Wilmington, South East AHEC (SEAHEC) is one of nine centers in the NC AHEC Program and serves Brunswick, Columbus, Duplin, New Hanover, and Pender counties.
