Mariette Steyn has over 20 years of work experience in various leadership positions in the mining industry. Mariette began their career at AngloGold Ashanti as a Plant Manager and later worked at Samancor Chrome as a Metallurgical Manager. In 2007, they joined BHP Billiton Energy Coal as a Senior Manager in Supply, where they remained until 2015. In 2014, they briefly served as the Head of Health, Safety, and Environment at BHP Billiton Energy Coal South Africa. Mariette then joined South32 as Vice President Supply Africa from 2015 to 2016. From 2016 to 2018, they held the position of Vice President Projects and Planning at South32. Mariette went on to become Vice President Group Supply from 2018 to 2019, and then Vice President Group Risk and Assurance from 2019 to 2022, accountable for setting the Group Risk framework. Currently, Mariette Steyn holds the role of Vice President Health and Safety Culture at South32, starting in 2023.
Mariette Steyn completed a Bachelor of Engineering in Chemical Engineering from Stellenbosch University from 1992 to 1995. It is not clear when they attended GIBS Business School or whether they obtained a degree or field of study from there.
