Kate started their higher education journey in 1996 at Victoria University of Wellington, where they pursued a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science until 1998. Kate then attended Auckland University of Technology from 2001 to 2003, earning a Graduate Diploma in Psychosocial studies. Kate continued their studies at The University of Auckland, where they completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Health Sciences from 2006 to 2008. Kate furthered their education at the same institution, obtaining a Master of Public Health (Honours) degree in the field of Public Health from 2008 to 2009.

In terms of additional certifications, Kate has acquired several qualifications.
