Tyrel R. Jernigan

Tyrel R. Jernigan is a seasoned Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Consultant at Southwest Airlines since June 2023, with a robust background in diversity initiatives within higher education. Previously, Tyrel served in various leadership roles at Mississippi State University from February 2018 to May 2023, including Director, Interim Director, and Associate Director for Diversity Recruitment and Retention Initiatives. This role focused on enhancing the recruitment and retention of diverse faculty and staff, as well as managing diversity education programs. Prior to that, Tyrel worked at Jacksonville State University as Coordinator of Diversity Initiatives and held positions in residence life. Tyrel earned a Bachelor of Science from Mississippi State University, a Master of Public Administration from Jacksonville State University, and a Doctor of Education in Higher Education Administration from The University of Southern Mississippi.
