Kevin McKone currently serves as a Physics Instructor at Southwest Mississippi Community College since July 2023. Previously, McKone held the position of Chair and Instructor at Copiah-Lincoln Community College from August 1999 to July 2023, where responsibilities included managing a budget and overseeing seven full-time faculty while conducting 12-15 hours of instruction. Additionally, McKone was a Postdoctoral researcher at the LSU Department of Geology & Geophysics between January 2008 and June 2010, focusing on the study of Frontal Eddies in the Loop Current and their impact on Topographic Rossby Waves. McKone's earlier experience includes serving as a Physical Scientist at the Naval Oceanographic Office from July 1997 to July 1999, specializing in physical oceanography. Educational qualifications include a Ph.D. in Physical Oceanography from The University of Southern Mississippi and a Bachelor's degree in Physics from Colorado State University.

Southwest Mississippi Community College provides academic, technical, and continuing education, meeting the diverse needs of the population at a reasonable cost. SMCC promotes community services and promotes economic development through consultative and workforce training. We are located about one mile east of the town of Summit, Mississippi. The campus is one of natural beauty covering sixty acres with an abundance of beautiful shade trees, shrubs, and flowering plants. The site combines beauty, quietness, restfulness, and the healthy, invigorating atmosphere of the country with all the conveniences offered by the town of Summit and the larger city of McComb, four miles to the south.
