Carmen Velez, Ph.D., currently serves as an Assistant Professor of Chemistry and Director of Organic Chemistry Laboratories at Southwestern University since August 2015. Previously, Carmen held positions as a Visiting Assistant Professor of Chemistry at St. Edward's University from August 2014 to May 2015 and Program Coordinator for the Bridges to the Baccalaureate Program at Skyline College from August 2011 to May 2014, a program funded by the National Institutes of Health to support underrepresented groups in biomedical sciences. Carmen's academic career began as an Assistant Professor of Chemistry at the University of California at San Diego from September 2004 to June 2011. Carmen earned a Doctor of Philosophy in Organometallic Chemistry from UC San Diego between 2004 and 2011 and held a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from the University of Puerto Rico, Rio Piedras Campus from 1999 to 2004.
