Michael Yaacoub

Undergraduate Mechanical Engineer at Space Machines Company

Michael Yaacoub has a diverse range of work experience in the aerospace and engineering fields. Michael started their career as an Assistant CNC Machinist and Junior Mechanical Engineer at Long Engineering Australia, where they were responsible for manufacturing parts and implementing CAD/CAM into the CNC manufacturing process.

Michael then gained experience as an Aerodynamics Engineer at the University of Sydney Design Build Fly, where they worked on the design and fabrication of an unmanned aircraft, focusing on airfoil selection, flight envelope analysis, and control surface design.

Michael also worked as a Space Engineering R&D Intern and Product Lead Design Engineer at Armstrong Space, where they performed FEA analysis on primary satellite structures, developed standard operating procedures for space orbital vehicle design, and conducted research and development on orbital vehicle design and structures.

Michael further expanded their aerospace engineering skills as an Aerospace Engineering Intern at Dandelions, where they worked on the mechanical development of a satellite payload and conducted research and development on an Emergency Services UAV. Their responsibilities included mathematical modeling for rotorcraft UAVs, aerodynamic optimization, and the verification and validation of designs.

Michael has also gained experience as a Student Aerospace Engineer at the ARC Training Centre for CubeSats, UAVs, and their Applications (CUAVA), where they assisted with the mechanical design of satellite components and conducted FEA vibration simulations.

Furthermore, they worked as an Aerostructures Engineer at the USYD Rocketry Team, contributing to the design of various rocket components and assisting with composite fabrication and lay-up.

Currently, Michael is pursuing their undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering at Space Machines Company.

Throughout their various roles, Michael has demonstrated skills in systems engineering, FEA analysis, mechanical design, project management, aerodynamics, and mathematical modeling.

Michael Yaacoub attended Saint Ignatius' College Riverview from 2012 to 2019. Michael then pursued a Bachelor of Aeronautical Engineering (Hons) with a Space Engineering Major at the University of Sydney from 2020 to 2024. Additionally, in May 2023, they obtained a certification in "Take a More Creative Approach to Problem-Solving" from LinkedIn.
