Bartholomew Tortella has extensive experience in the medical field, with a focus on medical affairs and clinical research. Bartholomew currently holds the position of Vice President and Head of Medical Affairs at Spark Therapeutics, Inc. Bartholomew previously worked at Pfizer, where they held various positions including Global Medical Affairs Lead for Hemophilia and Transplantation. Before that, they worked at Novo Nordisk Pharmaceuticals as a Senior Director of Clinical Research and at Merck as an Associate Medical Director and Manufacturing Medical Quality Assurance Officer. Prior to that, they served as an Attending Surgeon at Drexel University College of Medicine.

Bartholomew Tortella attended Harvard Medical School from 1975 to 1980, where they obtained their MD degree. In addition to their educational background, Bartholomew Tortella holds certifications as a Fellow of the American College of Critical Care Medicine, obtained in 1998, and as a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, obtained in 1989.
