Nick Pogrebnyakov

Nick Pogrebnyakov has a diverse work experience that started in 2001 as a Team Leader and Programmer at IBA Group. Nick then worked as a Research Assistant at Pennsylvania State University, where they led a research team and contributed to winning several grants to study supply chains in manufacturing industries. From there, they joined the IESE Business School as a Post-Doctoral Researcher, leading a research project on the use of mobile technology and IT in the value chains of the automotive, banking, and media & entertainment industries. Nick worked at Stanford University as a Visiting Researcher in 2012. In 2018, they became a Machine Learning Instructor at WeCloudData, where they taught and developed instructional materials and conducted practical exercises at an intensive data science bootcamp. Nick then worked at Thomson Reuters as a Senior Applied Research Scientist, where they developed and productionized NLP models for contract analysis, trained generative models (GPT-2) on in-house data, and led applied research projects. In 2021, Nick founded DegreesAbove.org, providing climate data. Recently they served as a Tech Lead & Senior Machine Learning Engineer at Twitter, where they improved the quality of tweets shown to users in Twitter Notifications and Home Timeline and implemented and deployed Transformer-based and ML models end-to-end. Currently, Nick is Head of AI and Data Science at Sparrow since May 2023. Lastly, Nick also worked as an Associate Professor of International Business at Copenhagen Business School from 2009 until 2022 where researched and taught in various areas.

Nick Pogrebnyakov obtained their MSc in Mathematics and Computer Science from Belarusian State University of Informatics and Radioelectronics in 2002. Nick then pursued a PhD in Information Sciences and Technology at Penn State University from 2004 to 2008.
