Joseph Munaretto, PhD

Joseph Munaretto, PhD has a diverse work experience in the fields of data science and algorithm development. Joseph started their career in 2001 as a Fiber Measurement Technology Engineer at Corning Incorporated. Joseph then worked as a Computational Research Engineer at ARA from 2011 to 2014. Joseph also served as a Senior Algorithm Developer at Salutron from 2014 to 2016.

In 2016, they joined Zepp Health as a Staff Algorithm Engineer & Tech Lead, where they were responsible for creating advanced signal processing and machine learning algorithms for wearable devices. Joseph developed algorithms related to physiological sensing, such as PPG-based Heart Rate Variability and adaptive walking/running step length algorithms.

From 2017 to 2019, Joseph worked at Huawei as a Senior Staff Algorithm Engineer. In this role, they utilized signal processing, machine learning, and deep learning techniques to develop mobile sensing detection algorithms. Joseph also designed a novel algorithm to track a phone's position using biomechanical principles and sensor fusion.

In 2017, they briefly served as a Senior Data Scientist at Ceribell, Inc. Joseph then moved on to GraphWear Technologies Inc. in 2019, where they worked as a Senior Data Scientist.

Their most recent position is at Sparta Science, where they started in February 2020 as a Staff Data Scientist.

Joseph Munaretto, PhD, has an extensive education history. Joseph obtained their Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Cornell University in 2003. In 2004, they pursued a Master's degree in Engineering Mechanics at the KTH Royal Institute of Technology. Following this, they attended the University of Southern California from 2005 to 2011, where they earned their PhD in Biomedical Engineering. Additionally, in 2002, they participated in a semester abroad program at UNSW. Prior to their university education, Joseph completed their high school education at Olmsted Falls High School from 1995 to 1999.
