John Hanley is a seasoned data scientist and director at Special Olympics since December 2021, utilizing mathematical modeling to enhance health research for athletes. Prior experience includes serving as a faculty scientist at the University of Vermont, collaborating on infectious disease datasets and modeling the Covid-19 pandemic. John has also held roles as a researcher at the University of Vermont, focusing on mathematical models related to Dengue infections and data mining for Chagas disease. Academic contributions include teaching hydraulics and engineering courses as an adjunct lecturer and graduate teaching assistant. John holds a PhD in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of Vermont and a BA in Environmental Studies from Middlebury College. Additionally, John co-owned Pirogi Union, a small business emphasizing local food sourcing and production.
