Job description
Speechmatics is a cutting-edge applied AI Research company that is seeking a Staff-Level Research Engineer/Scientist to spearhead advancements in Machine Learning for Speech.
The Representations team has a strong focus on self-supervised learning, supporting Speechmatics towards being the most accurate speech recognition system globally. This team is responsible for training the largest Machine Learning models within the company and ensuring their deployment into production. Because of this, the team emphasises both strong Machine Learning and Engineering skills, while staying updated with the latest advancements in ML development.
What you’ll be doing:
- Define research milestones and guide the team towards achieving significant outcomes.
- Stay current with the latest developments in Machine Learning and align these with the team's vision.
- Identify and execute high-impact projects to ensure the team's success.
- Mentor and support team members in their growth and development.
Who we are looking for:
- Strong understanding of the modern Machine Learning stack, for example:
- Proficiency in writing CUDA/Triton and optimizing GPU-specific operations.
- Expertise in distributed training techniques.
- Knowledge of contemporary transformer architectures (e.g., GQA, KV-caching).
- Familiarity with optimization strategies for model inference (e.g., dynamic batching, flash attention, speculative decoding). - Demonstrated experience in collaboratively pursuing ambitious research agendas.
- With preferred backgrounds covering some of the following:
- Publications in top-tier conferences such as NeurIPS, ICML.
- Contributions to popular open-source repositories.
- Strong technical writing skills as evidenced by relevant publications or blogs.
