John Thornburg earned their Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Michigan, where they studied from 1975 to 1980. John then pursued further education and obtained a Masters of Science degree in Engineering with a focus on Mechanical Engineering from the California State Polytechnic University-Pomona, studying there from 1981 to 1983.
