Louis Capponi, MD, FACP

Dr. Louis Capponi is the current Chief Medical Officer at Spora Health. Prior to this, they served as the Vice President and Chief Medical Informatics Officer at SCL Health from November 2017 to September 2020. In this role, they were responsible for leading the informatics department for an 8 hospital system, which included multiple regional medical groups in Colorado and Montana.

Under Dr. Capponi's leadership, the informatics department saw significant changes and growth. Louis created a strategic plan for the department following an organizational assessment of its function and needs. This led to a reorganization of the department and the creation of a new Health Informatics Department. Additionally, they implemented OpenNotes in ambulatory and ED settings across all hospitals and primary care practices.

In terms of specific achievements, Dr. Capponi lead the PAMA clinical decision support (CDS) program for imaging appropriateness. Louis secured funding and launched an enterprise project, which achieved ED compliance well above benchmarks. Louis also implemented a sepsis predictive model to reduce the false alarm rate and the burden on clinicians. This resulted in a 5.5-fold/16-fold alert reduction for MD’s/Nurses (from 102/month to 6/month).

Louis Capponi, MD, FACP is a doctor of medicine who studied biochemistry at New York University. Louis is board certified by the American Board of Preventive Medicine in clinical informatics and by the American Board of Internal Medicine in internal medicine.
