If you're a data scientist, computer scientist, physicist, sports scientist, engineer, business graduate, graphic designer, mechanical designer, creative or just passionate about the intersection of elite sports and bleeding edge technology then Sportable is your place.   In Australia, we work with all the football codes, notably Rugby Union, Rugby League, and Australian Rules Football.

Our core hardware product offerings include smart balls and player tracking devices.  This technology provides some of the crucial missing links in the current sports data value chain – all complimented by our AI tools and data analytics capabilities.

• Fixed term role, with potential to extend.
• Competitive salary (A$ 75,000 – 80,000 excl. super).
• Immediate start.
• Remote role, based in Sydney
• Must be available on match days (often evenings and weekends).

Who we are looking for…

This role is focused on the operational delivery of our services in matches and training environments.  It is a unique blend of operational delivery, sport performance, and technology in a fast paced and thrilling environment. Successful candidates will be responsible for match data delivery within a given region and gain a front row seat to professional sport.   Initially, this role will deliver services to Australian Rules Football customers.

The ideal candidate is a sports fan that appreciates the value that technology brings to the sporting arena.  You will be interested in how data can be used, especially with respect to broadcasting, officiating, fan engagement, and performance analysis.  You will be able to work confidently and independently in ‘high pressure’ situations where time and accuracy are important.  Having pride in your work is critical.  You will be confident leading a small team of casual staff and exercise a high degree of autonomy.  Communication will come naturally to you as you engage with a range of demanding stakeholders, including broadcast crew, professional sports teams, event crew as well as the extended Sportable team.  Availability when matches occur is critical, which includes many evenings and weekends.

While the role will be demanding, it will be fun and exciting.  Come join our team during a stage of rapid and exciting growth!

  • Become a ‘super-user’ of Sportable’s software and associated technology solutions.

  • Manage relationships with local stakeholders on matchday such as event crew, officials, team administrators, stadium managers and broadcast crew.

  • Coordinate the seamless delivery of data from matches to professional teams and sports broadcasters.

  • Deliver training ground services to teams (non-match days).

  • Assist with the logistics, management, and maintenance of Sportable equipment.

  • Engage and regularly communicate with the local (AU) operations team, and the Sportable UK team where required.

  • Other responsibilities and duties may be assigned on a case-by-case basis.

Essential skills / experience:

  • Proven ability to work and solve problems in high pressure environments.

  • Understanding of Australian sports.

  • Comfortable working with technology, and willing to learn new technology skills.

  • Experience managing / coordinating a small team.

  • Competent using excel for data analysis and interpreting data.

  • Ability to demonstrate a high attention to detail in fast-moving environments.

  • Excellent communicator (written & verbal), able to engage in both technical and business conversations.

  • Full (or provisional) driving license.

  • Commitment to working evenings, regular weekends, and public holidays.

  • Bachelor’s degree, ideally in a subject that aligns with our core business, such as Sports Administration, Sports Science, Business, Computer Science or IT.

Desirable skills / experience:

  • Hands-on experience with other sports technologies (e.g., GPS, optical tracking video analysis).
  • Knowledge of technology use, IT infrastructure and networking.
  • Knowledge of performance analysis software for the live coding of events.
  • Experience within an elite sport environment.
  • Exposure to live sports broadcast environments.
  • Access to a vehicle to transport equipment.

At Sportable, personal growth and development is important. If you do not ‘tick all the boxes’ for the stated skills and experience, but feel you excel in some, and have a strong interest in the sports sector, please consider applying for this role.

Personal qualities:

  • A great communicator, always acting with professionalism.

  • Reliable and motivated.

  • Able to maintain a professional network.

  • Can act independently to solve problems and deliver required services.

  • A can-do attitude, and able to work independently with minimal guidance.  Can quickly adapt to new challenges as they arise.

  • Comfortable leading a small team of contractors / casual staff on match day.

Working hours & travel:

  • While this a full-time role, it won’t typically be Monday to Friday, especially when the sports are in season.  It may require contributing to evening meetings with our international team, delivering matches and or training sessions that are often in the evening, on weekends, and public holidays.

  • Inter-state travel may be required (subject to match schedules and rosters).

Work location:

  • Sydney based: This is a 100% remote role, although you will be required to attend matches in and around NSW and the ACT.
