Weng In Leong

Senior Scientist at Spotlight Therapeutics

Weng In Leong has worked in a variety of roles in the scientific field since 1998. Weng In began their career as a Graduate Student Researcher in the Department of Nutrition at the University of California, Davis, where they studied the molecular regulation of iron absorption during early life and the molecular mechanisms regulating milk iron secretion during lactation. Weng In then moved to the School of Biological Sciences at The University of Hong Kong as a Postdoctoral Fellow. After that, they worked as a Researcher in the Department of Nutrition at the University of California, Davis. Weng In then moved to the Children's Hospital Oakland Research Institute as a Postdoctoral Fellow, where they elucidated the role of sphingosine-1-phosphate (S1P) in muscle regeneration and muscular dystrophy, and examined the effect of sphingolipids on proliferation, colony formation, HGF/cmet pathway of rhabdomyosarcoma cell lines as well as tumor growth in SCID mice grafted subcutaneously with Sgpl1 (S1P lyase) knocked down C2C12 cells. Weng In Leong then worked as a Research Associate in the Department of Medicine at Stanford University, followed by a Scientist I and Senior Research Associate at Dynavax Technologies. Weng In is currently employed as a Scientist II at Spotlight Therapeutics.

Weng In Leong has a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Nutrition Sciences from the University of California, Davis and a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Dietetics (Honors) from Iowa State University. In addition, they hold a CDR Certificate of Training in Adult Weight Management from the Commission on Dietetic Registration and is a Registered Dietitian with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
