Sheldon McDonough began their work experience in 1998 as an Account Manager for Commercial Banking at Scotiabank. Sheldon then worked as an Investment Banking Associate at Research Capital Corporation from 2002 to 2004. Following that, they joined Tristone Capital as an Associate in Investment Banking from 2004 to 2006. Sheldon then worked as the Director of Energy Investment Banking at Dundee Capital Markets from 2006 to 2012. After that, they served as the Head of Oil & Gas Canada at Standard Chartered Bank from 2012 to 2014. In 2015, Sheldon founded and became the Managing Director at Cadence Capital Advisory Ltd., an independent corporate finance advisory firm. Most recently, they joined Sproule, a global energy consulting firm, where they held the positions of Principal in Strategic Advisory from 2019 to 2021 and is currently the Managing Director of Energy Advisory.

Sheldon McDonough completed their Bachelor's Degree in Business/Commerce, General at the University of Saskatchewan from 1995 to 1998. Additionally, they pursued further education at the Canadian Securities Institute, where they completed the Partners, Directors and Senior Officers Course (PDO) and the Canadian Securities Course (CSC).
