James Kinnersly

Associate Director at SQW

James (MRTPI) has over ten years’ experience in development and regeneration including demand and feasibility analysis, financial viability, business case and funding bid preparation through to strategy development. Prior to joining SQW in 2020, James spent his early career working in planning, both as a consultant and for a major developer delivering strategic urban regeneration schemes.

He advises Councils and Registered Providers regarding large-scale, complex estate regeneration schemes including development strategy, financial viability analysis, appraisal of alternative delivery models and holistic options assessment in support of successful resident ballots.

Since joining SQW James has worked collaboratively with SQW’s sister company, Oxford Innovation, on demand and feasibility studies developing the evidence base and business plan for innovation-focused commercial projects.

James has led the coordination and development of business cases for a range of regeneration projects and, most recently, has been successful in securing funding from the Getting Building Fund and Levelling Up Fund. He has also developed business cases for projects funded via the Towns Fund and Future High Streets Fund.

He has developed town centre strategies and action plans and developed the business case and funding strategies for town centre interventions at all scales including area-wide, mixed-use regeneration.
