Patti Schank

Patti Schank is a seasoned Cognitive and Computer Scientist with extensive experience in user-centered design and technology development for educational environments. Currently co-leading UX design and development initiatives at SRI International since October 2019, Patti previously served as the Director of Learner Centered Design Research at Digital Promise, where leadership of design and development activities was informed by research in learning sciences. A long tenure at SRI International from 1995 to 2017 involved leading innovative projects related to online communities and learning tools, with significant contributions as Principal Investigator on numerous NSF-funded grants and authoring over 40 publications. Early career roles included research consultancy at Xerox PARC and various software engineering internships at Apple, focusing on user interface design and intelligent agent systems. Patti holds a PhD in Cognitive Science and Education, as well as an M.S. in Computer Science from the University of California, Berkeley, and a B.S. in Math and Computer Science from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
