Indika Hiran Wijesinghe

Indika Hiran Wijesinghe has a diverse work experience. Indika Hiran started their career at the Sri Lanka Department of Survey as an Information Technology Officer, where they developed software modules to improve efficiency and resolved software and hardware issues. Indika Hiran then moved on to the University of Kelaniya, where they served as a Java Software Engineer, heading the Results Processing Unit and delivering lectures to undergraduate students on IT topics.

After pursuing freelancing in 2016, Indika worked as a Data Science practitioner & Analytics Evangelist, assisting IT companies and public sector institutes in fulfilling their analytical requirements and coaching data science enthusiasts to improve their skills.

Indika also worked at the Sri Lanka Tea Board as an Assistant Director of Information Technology, leading the IT & Statistics unit. Indika Hiran developed IT strategies, applied Data Science and Machine Learning skills to generate insights, and oversaw the Statistical division.

Their latest role has been at Omdena, where they initially served as the Omdena Chapter Lead for Sri Lanka, dedicated to building real-world AI applications through open-source projects. Indika Hiran is currently a Senior Machine Learning Engineer at Omdena, collaborating with professionals worldwide to develop AI applications for the betterment of society.

Indika Hiran Wijesinghe has a diverse education history in the field of computer science and data analytics. Their educational journey began in 1986 when they attended Dharmaraja College in Kandy for their primary and secondary education, completing their GCE A/L in 1999.

In 2001, Indika enrolled at the University of Peradeniya, where they pursued a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science. Indika Hiran successfully completed their undergraduate studies in 2005.

Indika continued to advance their knowledge and skills by pursuing a Master's degree in Management & Information Technology at the University of Kelaniya Sri Lanka from 2011 to 2013.

In 2016, they embarked on a postgraduate journey at Robert Gordon University, pursuing a Master's degree in Big Data Analytics. Indika Hiran successfully completed this program in 2018.

To further enhance their expertise, Indika pursued various certifications. In 2019, they obtained several certifications from Coursera and Google Cloud Platform, covering topics such as Data Engineering, Big Data, Machine Learning, and SQL.

In 2020, Indika completed the Predictive Analytics for Business Nanodegree program at Udacity, specializing in Computer Systems Analysis/Analyst.

Indika's thirst for knowledge and professional development did not stop there. In the subsequent years, they gained further certifications, including Product Management for AI & Data Science, Intro to ChatGPT and Generative AI, and Introduction to Business Analytics, which were obtained from 365 Data Science in 2022 and 2023.

Additionally, Indika holds the designation of Member of the British Computer Society, awarded by the BCS Sri Lanka Region in 2012.
