Michelle Schafer has had a comprehensive work experience in the healthcare industry, specifically in behavioral health services. Michelle started their career in 1995 as the Manager of EAP/Behavioral Health at Methodist Hospitals. From there, they became the Director of Operations for Methodist Medical Group, where they were responsible for Behavioral Health, Human Resources, and Risk Management divisions. In 2000, Michelle joined Indiana University Health as the Administrative Director of the Behavioral Health Service Line, overseeing various patient populations and operational components. Michelle then transitioned to SSM Health in 2015 as the Regional Vice President of Behavioral Health, leading the integration of behavioral health and primary care within the organization. Throughout their career, Michelle has focused on system strategy, quality measures, patient satisfaction, and operational oversight in the field of behavioral health.

Michelle Schafer earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology/Biology from Indiana University Bloomington from 1985 to 1989. Michelle further pursued their education at the same institution, obtaining a Master's degree in Counseling Psychology from 1989 to 1991.
