Valerie Fock

Valerie Fock is a highly experienced molecular biologist currently serving as a Postdoctoral Researcher at St. Anna Children's Cancer Research Institute since April 2021, working in the Heinrich Kovar Lab. Prior to this role, Valerie held the position of Senior Postdoctoral Fellow at the Medical University of Vienna from April 2020 to March 2021 in the Stephan Wagner Lab, and was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of Iceland from June 2015 to March 2020 in the Eiríkur Steingrímsson Lab. Valerie's academic journey began with a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology from the Medical University of Vienna, completed in 2015, following a tenure as a PhD student in Jürgen Pollheimer Lab, where the thesis focused on interleukin-1 family members in placental development. Valerie also gained research experience as an ERASMUS Student at Lund University, where the thesis addressed leukemia-initiating cells in a mouse model. Additional educational background includes an Engineer’s Degree in Biotechnology from the University of Applied Sciences Vienna.

St. Anna Children's Cancer Research Institute (CCRI)

The St. Anna Children's Cancer Research Institute (St Anna CCRI), located in the center of Vienna, the world's most livable city and one of Europe's most important places for biomedical research and life sciences, is an internationally renowned multidisciplinary research institution with the aim to develop and optimize diagnostic, prognostic, and therapeutic strategies for the treatment of children and adolescents with cancer. To achieve this goal we combine basic research with translational and clinical research and focus on the specific characteristics of childhood tumor diseases in order to provide young patients with the best possible and most innovative therapies. To achieve our ultimate goal of advancing the well-being of patients, the CCRI constantly pushes scientific boundaries and strongly promotes close collaboration and exchange with external institutions like the Medical University of Vienna, CeMM Research Center for Molecular Medicine of the Austrian Academy of Sciences, the Institute of Molecular Biotechnology of the Austrian Academy of Sciences (IMBA) and the Institute of Molecular Pathology (IMP).
