Fred Smith has extensive work experience in various organizations and roles. Fred began their career as a Legislative Aide in the House of Representatives from 1980 to 1986. Fred then served as the Director of Morgan Memorial Goodwill Industries from 1988 to 1990. In 1992, they joined NUVA, Inc. as a Director, where they managed a residential and vocational program and mentored a multiply disabled adult in starting a social enterprise. Fred Smith was also a member of the Board of Directors for the Criminal Justice Policy Coalition from 2008 onwards, contributing to strategies for advocating reform in the Massachusetts Criminal Justice system. Currently, they hold the position of Director of Program Development, Research and Evaluation at St. Francis House, Inc. since 2011.
Fred Smith earned an A.B. degree in History from Gordon College, where they studied from 1971 to 1974. Fred then pursued an M.A. degree in Government from Northeastern University and completed it from 1976 to 1978.
