Brian James

Assistant Professor at St John's University

Mr. James comes to St. John’s University as an Assistant Professor in the Art and Design department. He earned his M.F.A. in graphic design from the Rhode Island School of Design. Mr. James has practiced professionally as a visual-interaction designer and software developer at studios in New York, Boston, and San Diego, producing dynamic digital works for clients such as Nike, The World Bank, the Clinton Foundation, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and the Boston Public Library. With a prior M.A. in Language Acquisition and Teaching, and particular experience in data visualization and information design, Mr. James is interested in creative research at the intersection of design, technology, and language as it relates to our experience of knowing and understanding. Among other pursuits, he looks forward to exploring unconventional ways of visualizing data, and the creative possibilities of digital archives.
