Dr. Nevid has extensive research interests in the areas of clinical psychology, health psychology, implicit cognition, and teaching of psychology. He has published in a number of scientific journals, including Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, Health Psychology, Journal of Personality Assessment, Journal of Substance Abuse Treatment, Psychology and Marketing, Teaching of Psychology, and Scholarship of Teaching and Learning in Psychology. His research interests include cognitive-behavioral therapy, personality and substance abuse, pedagogical research, and measurement of implicit attitudes and cognitions.
Dr. Nevid is Professor of Psychology at St. John's University. He was awarded a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the State University of New York at Albany and was a NIMH Post-Doctoral Fellow in Mental Health Evaluation Research at Northwestern University. Dr. Nevid holds a Diplomate in Clinical Psychology (ABPP), is a Fellow of the American Psychological Association, and has served as Associate Editor of Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology and as Consulting Editor for the journals Health Psychology, Teaching of Psychology, and Psychology and Marketing.
Dr. Nevid has amassed more than 200 research publications and professional presentations and is author or coauthor of a number of textbooks and other books in the field, including BT/Behavior Therapy, Psychology: Concepts and Applications, Abnormal Psychology in a Changing World, Human Sexuality in a World of Diversity, and Psychology and the Challenges of Life: Adjustment and Growth. Dr. Nevid teaches a graduate course in objective personality assessment and supervises doctoral students in cognitive behavior therapy. Dr. Nevid is the recipient of the 2022 Charles L. Brewer Award for Distinguished Teaching in Psychology from the American Psychological Foundation of the American Psychological Association.
