Mike Cragg was announced as the seventh athletic director in St. John's history on Sept. 27, 2018, following a distinguished tenure at Duke University that spanned more than three decades.
As part of his leadership role at the University, Cragg serves on the President’s Advisory Council.
“We are excited to welcome Mike Cragg to St. John’s University,” said Gempesaw. “His vision for St. John’s Athletics coupled with his tremendous experience and commitment to excellence will undoubtedly benefit our student-athletes, as we collectively work to ensure their success on and off the field of play.”
“I am absolutely thrilled and honored to be joining the St. John’s family at this important period of growth for the University,” said Cragg. “From the first moment my wife and I stepped on campus, we felt at home and surrounded by great people with tremendous pride in their University. That passion is contagious and we were instantly hoping for this opportunity to be on President Gempesaw’s team. Without a doubt, I look forward to representing and humbly leading one of the iconic brands in all of college athletics - St. John’s.”
During his 30-plus years in Durham, Cragg played a vital role in shaping the direction of Duke’s nationally acclaimed men's basketball program. The senior administrator for the men’s basketball team since 2000, Cragg most recently served as the Blue Devils Deputy Director of Athletics and Chief Operating Officer, overseeing facilities and planning for all 27 of Duke's athletic programs.
