Patricia Pitta

Adjunct Clinical Professor & Director, Integrative Couple & Family Therapy Program at St John's University

Patricia Pitta is Adjunct Clinical Professor of Psychology and Director of the Integrative Couple and Family Therapy Program within the Office of Postgraduate Professional Development Programs. She has been a faculty member and supervisor for over 20 years at St. John’s. Prior to joining St. John’s faculty, Dr. Pitta was a faculty member at the Long Island Institute of Psychoanalysis where she taught “Healing Integrative Couple and Family Therapy Throughout the Life Cycle.” She is in private practice in Manhasset, New York, where she treats couples, families and individuals from the perspective of the Assimilative Family Therapy Model (Pitta, 2014).

Dr. Pitta has presented at national and international conferences for the past twenty-five years on many different aspects of treating couples, families, and individuals. She has published many articles about integrative family therapy and has published a book entitled, “Solving Modern Family Dilemmas: An Assimilative Family Therapy Model published by Routledge. She is presently editing a book with Corinne Datchi Ph.D., ABPP for APA Publications entitled Integrative Couple and Family Therapy: Contemporary Issues and Treatment Models that is due to be published in 2019. She has been featured in videos produced by American Psychological Association on treating couples and families throughout the life cycle from an integrative approach. She has appeared as an expert on family relationships on many radio and television shows. Dr. Pitta has been on the editorial board for the Journal of Psychotherapy, Division 29, APA Publications and Self Help and Psychology, an online magazine.

Dr. Pitta has held offices at the national and state level. She was President of the Clinical Division of the New York State Psychological Association as well as President of the Long Island Association of Marriage and Family Therapy. She was a member at large for Division 42, Independent Practice, American Psychological Association. She is presently a member at large on the American Board of Professional Psychology in Couple and Family Therapy (2016-2019). She holds a diplomate in Couple and Family Psychology awarded by the American Board of Professional Psychology and is a Fellow of the Academy of Couple and Family Psychology. Dr. Pitta will be awarded Fellow Status from the American Psychological Association (August, 2018). She is an Approved Supervisor in the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy and holds a certificate in Parent Coordination. She also earned a certificate as a Lay Minister from the Pastoral Formation Institute of the Rockville Centre Diocese in Rockville Centre, New York.
