Melanie Hager, MA, CNP, serves as the Director of Community Engagement at St. Louis Area Foodbank, focusing on initiatives to combat hunger through public benefit education, grassroots advocacy, and workforce development. With experience as the Community Resource Manager and Supervisor, Melanie has successfully increased SNAP applications and fostered partnerships with community organizations. In a prior role as SNAP Capacity Advisor at Feeding America, best practices for SNAP Application Assistance were co-developed, enhancing outreach efforts. Melanie's background includes administrative support at Gateway Region YMCA, where organizational and volunteer engagement skills were honed, and an educational foundation with a Master's in Nonprofit Administration and a Bachelor's in Non-Profit/Public/Organizational Management.

The St. Louis Area Foodbank is the bi-state region’s largest non-profit 501(c)(3) food distribution center dedicated to feeding those in need. Through our network of more than 500 partner agencies, we distributed over 42 million pounds of food in 2016. Thanks to the generous support from our donors and volunteers, we provide food assistance to more than 57,000 individuals each week in 26 counties in Eastern Missouri and Southwestern Illinois. The St. Louis Area Foodbank is a proud member of both the United Way and Feeding America – a nationwide network of over 200 food banks.
