Doyle Armbrust

Doyle Armbrust is a distinguished violist and music writer, currently serving as the host and founder of the Society of Disobedient Listeners with the University Musical Society since January 2017. Armbrust leads "The Insubordination Hour," an innovative pre-concert experience that challenges conventional views of western classical music. In addition to hosting, Armbrust contributes essays and interviews for UMS, the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra, WQXR Radio’s Q2 Music, and the Chicago Classical Review. As a founder and curator of the (Un)familiar Music Series, Armbrust also coaches chamber music at Roosevelt University and serves as a sectional coach at DePaul University. Armbrust is a member of the Spektral Quartet and has previously performed with the Grossman Ensemble. Armbrust holds a Master of Music in Viola Performance from the University of Southern California and a Bachelor of Music in Viola Performance from Northwestern University.
