Krista Spurgin has a diverse range of work experience spanning various roles and organizations. Starting in 2002, they worked as a Legal Office Assistant at Kinsey until 2004. In 2004, they were a Campaign Manager at Llewellyn for NC House. The following year, they served as a Program Instructor at Close Up Foundation. In 2005, they were a Campaign Manager for the Bill Barlow House of Delegates Campaign, and later that year, they became the Political Director at the North Carolina Democratic House Committee. In 2006, they joined FEMA as a Congressional Liaison. In 2007, they became the Caucus Director at NC Democratic Senate, overseeing various responsibilities such as candidate recruitment and fundraising. Krista also worked as a Campaign Manager for the Albert Pollard for Senate Campaign during the same year. From 2012 to 2013, they worked as the State Operations Director at Organizing for America - North Carolina, handling operational needs and project management. From 2013 to the present, they have held multiple roles at Stand for Children, including Vice President of State Operations and CO Executive Director.

Krista Spurgin completed their Bachelor's degree in Political Science and English from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln from 1999 to 2003. Additionally, they pursued further studies at the University of Wollongong from 2000 to 2001, focusing on Political Science and English.
