Aaron Smith

Aaron Smith, FSA has a diverse work experience in the actuarial field. Aaron is currently working at The Standard as a Senior Director and Actuary - Transformation Delivery. Prior to this role, they held positions at The Standard as a Director and Actuary - Workstream Lead - Automation, Workflow, and Reporting, Director and Actuary - Special Projects, and Director and Actuary - Actuarial Business Automation. In these roles, they led a team of actuarial developers, spearheaded the adoption of Python as the primary automation language, built an ecosystem of internal Python packages, and implemented Continuous Integration/Testing and Development for Python code. Aaron also served as the Agile Product Owner for various applications and acted as a bridge between technical staff and business users. Before joining The Standard, Aaron worked at Voya Financial as an Associate Actuary - Model Production and Risk Reporting Lead, Associate Actuary, and Senior Actuarial Associate. Aaron also gained experience at The Hartford as an Actuarial Consultant and Senior Actuarial Analyst. Additionally, Aaron worked as a Statistician at Brigham Young University and as an Actuarial Analyst Intern at Mercer. Aaron started their career as an Algebra and Statistics Tutor at Ology.

Aaron Smith, FSA holds a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Statistics from Brigham Young University, which they obtained between 2008 and 2013. Aaron has also earned several certifications, including becoming a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries in 2017 and a Chartered Enterprise Risk Analyst in 2016. In 2019, they obtained the Microsoft Certified: Azure Fundamentals certification. Furthermore, Aaron is currently pursuing additional certifications, including the Dataiku Advanced Designer and Dataiku Core Designer, both expected to be obtained in 2023.
