Hanson Feng (He/Him)

Vice-President, Member Engagement at Start Proud

Hanson Feng is a student at the University of Toronto studying Political Science and Canadian Studies (HBA 25'). He is Start Proud's Vice President of Member Engagement where he owns the organization's alumni, campus, and member engagement growth strategy and institutional fund development. He previously was an Associate on the Advocacy team.

Hanson has worked a myriad of roles in the intersection of ESG, Diversity & Inclusion, and Enterprise Strategy. This includes his work:

- At the Centre for Newcomers in Calgary, leading the LGBTQ+ department's institutional and retail fund development strategy, laying foundational funding relationships for Ukrainian and Afghan refugees.

- Owning social policy and program development, advisory, and evaluation on over $20-Million in programming at the Centre for Newcomers.

- At Canadian National Railway, in their Diversity and Inclusion team, he managed relationships with their Employee Resource Groups, advised C-Suite executives on diversity and inclusion in their business units, and supported board and institutional investor reporting on ESG progress.

- At KPMG, as a Management Consultant Intern, he advised Canadian executives on building more inclusive and accessible strategies and approaches for customer and employee experience.

- At the City of Toronto, where he advised on the COVID-19 youth vaccine engagement strategy, specifically for historically underrepresented communities.

Outside of his passion for social innovation and ESG, Hanson is exploring Toronto's restaurant scene, travel-point hacking, running, and painting.

Our objectives at Start Proud are to: 1. Inspire students to utilize their confidence, skills and knowledge that will enable them to distinguish themselves and act as leaders of the Canadian community. 2. Connect students with fellow peers, professionals and members from pro-LGBTQA organizations to establish their network. 3. Foster mentorship by exposing students to strong leaders and role models that have paved the way for the LGBTQA community. 4. Establish a positive public profile of the advancement of the LGBTQA community in the Canadian workforce and communities within which we operate.
