James Carson Whedbee Bock has a diverse work experience spanning over several decades. James Carson Whedbee started their career as a Nuclear Machinist Mate 2nd Class/SS in the United States Navy from 1984 to 1991. Following their service, they worked as a Senior Sales Associate at The Sharper Image from 1991 to 1994. James Carson Whedbee then served as a Graduate Assistant - Systems Administrator at the University of Minnesota from 1994 to 1996.

In 1998, Bock began their legal career as an Attorney at James C. W. Bock, Attorney at Law. James Carson Whedbee also worked at Ascension Sports as a Principal & Lead Negotiator from 1999 onwards. In 2006, they became a Principal & Partner at Bock & Battina, LLP until 2010.

In 1994, they also completed a program in Conflict Management at the University of Minnesota's H.H.H. Center for Public Policy. Earlier in their academic journey, Bock earned a BSB degree in Finance, Accounting & Entrepreneurship from the University of Minnesota - Carlson School of Management from 1992 to 1994. James Carson Whedbee began their undergraduate studies with a BA in Philosophy at the University of Minnesota in 1991. Before attending university, Bock received a high school diploma from Hopkins High School in 1983 and completed their secondary education at Orono High School from 1981 to 1983.
