Joann Bautista

Joann Bautista serves as the Deputy Secretary of State and Policy Advisor for the State of Maine since February 2021. Prior to this role, Joann held the position of Director of Advocacy at Preble Street and served as the Special Projects Manager at the ACLU of Maine. Joann has experience as a Policy Associate at the National Immigrant Justice Center and completed a Summer Legal Internship with Kids in Need of Defense (KIND). Additionally, Joann worked as a Student Attorney at the Refugee and Human Rights Clinic at the University of Maine School of Law, and interned at Yale Law School. Early career experience includes serving as a Paralegal at Vondra and Malott and contributing as a reporter for The Daily Iowan and Iowa Journalist Magazine. Joann holds a Juris Doctor from The University of Maine School of Law and a Bachelor's degree in Journalism and International Studies from the University of Iowa.
