Mark Sharpley has a range of work experience in various roles and companies. Mark currently holds the position of Principal Engineer at StatsBomb, starting in June 2022. Prior to this, they worked at AstraZeneca, where they were a Tech Lead Platform Operations from March 2022 to June 2022 and a Senior Platform Engineer from October 2020 to March 2022.
Before their time at AstraZeneca, Mark worked at the University of Cambridge as a Research Computing Specialist from October 2018 to October 2020. In this role, they designed and implemented ISO27001 compliant cloud solutions and led the engineering efforts for the Secure Research Computing Platform. Mark also had responsibilities in maintaining the local bioinformatics infrastructure and network, as well as providing end user support and training on Linux.
Prior to their work at the University of Cambridge, Mark was an Engineer at Strive Solutions from August 2013 to September 2017. Mark also served as the Network Manager at Monk's Walk School, where they led the IT support team and managed the IT estate for 1750 users. Mark was responsible for budgeting, network design and infrastructure migration, as well as user migration to new domains and platforms.
Mark's career began at Beaumont School, Hertfordshire, where they worked as an Assistant Network Manager from November 2012 to November 2014. In this role, they assisted the network manager in network development and management, and also performed the manager's duties in their absence. Mark supervised a team of two technicians.
