Mark Higgins

Chief Operating Officer at The Steamship Authority

Mark Higgins started their career in 1992 as a Marine Engineer at Tidewater Marine, where they were responsible for supervising engine room personnel and maintaining engineering systems on various vessels. Mark then worked at Edison Chouest Offshore from 1995 to 1999 as an Operations Coordinator, overseeing worldwide vessel operations and developing a Safety Management System. From 1999 to 2000, they served as Assistant Fleet Manager for Stolt-Nielsen Limited, responsible for vessel operations and management. Mark Higgins then joined General Dynamics from 2000 to 2017 as the Chief of Safety and Training, ensuring compliance with maritime qualification standards. Mark later joined the Maine Department of Transportation as the Director of the Maine State Ferry Service, overseeing operations, projects, and budgets. Currently, they serve as the Chief Operating Officer at The Steamship Authority.

Mark Higgins attended Maine Maritime Academy from 1987 to 1992, where they earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Marine Engineering.
