Early in their career, An-Jey worked at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine as a Researcher in the departments of Neurobiology and Cell Biology and Physiology. This position involved conducting research on the molecular nature of the interaction of ATP with the K(ir)+channel on insulin granules. Notably, this research required communication in Mandarin Chinese due to collaborations with Chinese scientists.

An-Jey Su attended the University of Pittsburgh from 1995 to 2001, where they pursued a Bachelor of Science degree. During their time at the university, An-Jey studied various subjects, including Neuroscience, History and Philosophy of Science, and also earned a certification in Conceptual Foundations of Medicine.
