Jed Mccaleb

Founder and Chief Architect at Stellar Development Foundation

Jed Mccaleb is the founder and chief architect of the Stellar Development Foundation. Jed is also the founder of Machine Intelligence Research Institute, Code Collective, and MetaMachine. Jed has been programming since they were 12 years old and designing games since they were 14.

Mccaleb's first company was Code Collective, which they founded in February 2007. Jed programmed and designed The Far Wilds, a turn-based strategy game that emphasized clever plays. The Far Wilds received positive reviews from IGN for its "unique, interesting and addictive gameplay." When they no longer had time to run the game, they handed it over to a group of dedicated fans who could continue to operate it for the community.

In August 2011, Mccaleb founded Ripple.com, a real-time gross settlement system (RTGS), currency exchange and remittance network. Jed served as its founder until July 2013.

Mccaleb is also the founder of the Machine Intelligence Research Institute, which they started in August 2000. The institute is a non-profit research organization dedicated to developing friendly artificial intelligence in a way that will benefit humanity as a whole.

In January 2014, McCaleb created the Stellar network—an open-source protocol for value exchange co-founded by Joyce Kim. In November 2015, Jed joined the Board of Directors for the Stellar Development Foundation.
