Derek Cluse (CPA)

Derek Cluse is a CPA with extensive work experience in various finance and leadership roles. Derek currently serves as the Chief of Staff at Step Forward, where they oversee the Finance, Technology, and Operations areas, as well as spearheads organization-wide strategic planning. Prior to this, Derek held the position of Chief Financial Officer at Step Forward from 2020 to 2022.

Previously, Derek served as the President of Cluse Development, LLC since 2005. Derek also worked as the Chief Financial Officer of The Council for Economic Opportunities in Greater Cleveland, the largest Community Action Agency in Ohio, from 2020 to 2022. Derek has experience in the education sector as well, having worked as the Deputy Chief Financial Officer at the Cleveland Metropolitan School District from 2018 to 2020 and as the Chief Operating Officer at the Hudson City School District from 2009 to 2018.

In addition to their roles in education, Derek has held various financial leadership positions in different organizations. Derek served as the Business Manager at Ashland City Schools from 2007 to 2009 and as the Chief Financial Officer at Payne Theological Seminary from 2001 to 2009, where they provided financial leadership and implemented improved accounting controls. Derek also worked as the Chief Financial Officer at The Institute of Management and Resources, Inc. from 2000 to 2006, where they provided strategic financial insight and managed the finance department.

Earlier in their career, Derek held finance positions at Cleveland Professional Hockey and Ringold Corporation. Overall, Derek Cluse brings a wealth of financial expertise and leadership experience to their roles.

Derek Cluse (CPA) completed their Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from the Southern University and Agricultural and Mechanical College at Baton Rouge, where they studied from 1984 to 1988.

In addition to their degree, Derek Cluse has earned several certifications throughout their career. Derek obtained the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification from the Ohio Society of CPA's in May 1993. Derek also holds the certification of "Succeeding as a Strategic CFO" from the Harvard Business School, which they obtained in December 2021.

Furthermore, Derek Cluse has pursued certifications in the education field. Derek holds the certifications of a "Certified Administrator of School Finance and Operations" from the Association of School Business Managers International.
