Katie Johnston

Katie Johnston possesses extensive expertise in avalanche education and safety, currently serving as an AIARE Avalanche education instructor at Stevens Pass Mountain Resort since December 2015. Additionally, Katie works as an Avalanche Technician for the Washington State Department of Transportation, focusing on explosive and artillery control to enhance highway safety and performing snowpack and weather analyses. As a former Transportation Planner, Katie monitored construction compliance, environmental permitting, and water quality sampling. Experience also includes roles as a Ski Patroller at Stevens Pass, a Chemistry Stockroom Technician at Central Washington University, and an intern at the Chugach National Forest Avalanche Information Center, where daily avalanche hazard forecasts were issued. Katie holds a Master’s degree in Geology/Snow Science and a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, both from Central Washington University.
