Christian Wirth

Christian Wirth is an accomplished academic and researcher with significant experience in international studies and security affairs. Currently serving as an Associate at the German Institute for International and Security Affairs (SWP) since January 2023, Christian previously held the position of Research Fellow at the German Institute for Global and Area Studies (GIGA) until December 2022. Christian’s extensive background includes roles such as Adjunct Research Fellow and Research Fellow at Griffith University, Australia, and a stint as Assistant Professor at Leiden University. Additional appointments include Visiting Associate Professor at Tohoku University and Adjunct Lecturer at Sophia University. Christian began a career in academia following a tenure as Captain in the Swiss Armed Forces. Educational credentials include a Ph.D. in International Studies from Waseda University, a Master of International Affairs from The Australian National University, and a Master of Law from the University of St. Gallen, among other qualifications.
