Jack Shi

Jack Shi has a diverse work experience spanning several industries and roles. In 2017, they worked at Telstra as a Change Lead, Architect, and Development Lead for their Small Business division, where they successfully implemented Agile methodologies and delivered projects on time and under budget. Jack then became a Principal Full Stack Tech Lead, Change Advisor, and Mentor at Telstra, leading multiple teams and mentoring developers while creating workshops and training programs on new technologies and team optimization.

In 2019, Jack worked as an AI Robotics Engineer at UNSW, where they built a robot capable of playing physical card games with humans, utilizing complex image recognition and robotic arm movement. Jack also co-founded a start-up called iCare through UNSW Founders, aiming to build sustainable, reusable face masks for at-risk communities in Indian mining towns.

Jack later joined CSIRO's Data61 as a Principal Full Stack Dev Lead, overseeing a team in Russia to build a Jobs platform, and managed to deliver the project within budget and timeline using agile methodologies. Jack also participated in the Antler entrepreneurship program, exploring various start-up ideas and acquiring skills such as market research, product design, financial planning, and pitching.

In 2020, Jack became a CTO and Co-Founder at OctanSchool, where they led workshops and client interviews to determine market fit, investigated competitors, and built multiple MVPs for validation. Jack then co-founded Hackmakers, serving as the CTO and building the company from scratch to a global client base, with responsibilities that included driving product and tech architecture, setting processes, and managing cloud operations.

In 2021, Jack joined Ofload as Head of Engineering, growing the company from a team of 2 developers to 25 across various teams. Jack also played a key role in establishing the company's culture, systems, and agile processes while assisting in the hiring and setting up of the Product team.

Currently, Jack works at Stockspot as the Head of Engineering, a position they have held since 2023.

Jack Shi has a Master of Information Technology degree from UNSW, a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science from UNSW, and a Diploma of Software Development from TAFE NSW. In addition to their formal education, they have obtained several certifications, including Machine Learning and AI Foundations: Predictive Modeling Strategy at Scale from LinkedIn, Amazon Web Services Developer - Associate from Amazon Web Services (AWS), Amazon Web Services Solutions Architect Associate from Amazon Web Services (AWS), Organization Design from LinkedIn, Building Full-Stack Apps with React and Spring Apps from Lynda.com, Developing Your Leadership Philosophy from Lynda.com, Learning Adobe Reports and Analytics from Lynda.com, Developing Adaptable Managers from Lynda.com, Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) from Cisco, Sun Certified Java Programmer from Sun Microsystems, and Sun Certified Java Web Developer from Sun Microsystems.
