Jonathan Sanford

Jonathan Sanford has a diverse range of work experience spanning over several decades. Jonathan started their career as a Summer Associate at Powers & Hall, P.C. in 1984 and later worked as a Summer Associate at Hale and Dorr, LLP in 1986. In 1985, they gained experience as a Marketing Assistant at Citibank, NA in London, where they researched and wrote memoranda on Islamic banking practices and the American market for letters of credit.

In 1986, Jonathan co-founded and co-owned Boston Financial Consultants, Inc., a financial consulting firm that provided quantitative evaluation of investment manager performance. Jonathan calculated risk-return ratios of equity and debt portfolios and compared their performance against market benchmarks. Jonathan served as the Managing Director of the firm until 1988.

From 1987 to 2011, Jonathan co-founded and co-owned Groundwater Analytical, Inc., an environmental testing laboratory serving engineering, industrial, and governmental clients throughout Massachusetts and New England. As the President of the company, they were responsible for the vision, overall strategy, and key initiatives.

In 2011, Jonathan briefly worked as a Consultant for Alpha Analytical, Inc., the largest environmental testing laboratory in New England, providing business development support services.

From 2012 to 2019, Jonathan held the position of Senior Vice President at a startup biotech company. In this role, they were responsible for legal and business initiatives, drafting, reviewing, and negotiating various biotech agreements. Jonathan also played a crucial role in obtaining FDA authorization for a novel molecular diagnostic.

Currently, Jonathan works at Stoke Therapeutics, where they initially joined as a Corporate Counsel in April 2019. Jonathan was promoted to the position of Sr. Corporate Counsel in July 2021. At Stoke, they are responsible for the legal contracting activity and has extensive experience in various biotech agreements, including clinical trial agreements, licensing agreements, and consulting agreements. Jonathan implemented and maintains the contract management system for Stoke and serves as the contracting subject matter expert.

Jonathan Sanford received their education from various prestigious institutions. Jonathan first attended Sacred Heart High School in Kingston, MA, where they obtained their high school diploma in 1979. Jonathan then went on to study at Boston College from 1979 to 1983, earning an AB degree in Economics.

Continuing their educational journey, Sanford attended Harvard Law School from 1983 to 1987. During this time, they obtained a JD (Juris Doctor) degree, focusing on the field of law. Alongside their law studies, Sanford also pursued a degree in Business Administration at Harvard Business School from 1984 to 1987, earning an MBA (Master of Business Administration) degree.

After completing their formal education, Sanford received additional certifications and was admitted to the Massachusetts Bar by the Board of Bar Overseers in June 1988.
